Bike fitting has been a core service offered by Neal Goldberg since the early 90's. Beginning in 2002 when he opened FootWorks Physical Therapy Neal has focused on improving the interface between the cyclist and their bike based on biomechanical principles. When Neal does a bike fit you get an expert in both the bike and the human body. What more can you ask for?
Services offered -
Custom Frame Design – Do you desire the ultimate fit? Optimum performance and power? A custom frame creates the ultimate union between you and the bike... a single unit. Comfort, handling, power, performance, all perfect.
In order to create a custom frame design, a thorough evaluation of your goals and desires, your flexibility, strength, alignment, and special needs is performed.
Then a Waterford Fitmaster with Computrainer SpinScan is used to develop the frame design that fits you best. Tube lengths and angles, handle bar and stem can be changed in real-time to see immediate effects. Because Neal Goldberg is a physical therapist and specializes in foot mechanics, appropriate wedges can be added to the shoe / pedal interface to further enhance alignment and performance.
A schematic of your dream bike is then presented to you and you then have several options -
1. Take it to your favorite bicycle dealer to have a bike made - Cost $350
2. Have FootWorks Cycles do the leg work for you - Cost $499
3. Get a custom Serotta bike directly from FWC. - Cost $0
Stock Frame – Not everyone NEEDS a custom bike. Do you have a specific stock bike that you are craving? Not sure of the size or specific stem height / length, crank length…? Using the Waterford Fitmaster, Spinscan, and Fitstem your dream stock frame can be created. From there the ideal handle bar, stem, seat post and seat postion can be determined. Crank length can also be determined. This process saves you time and money by getting you the “custom” fit on a stock frame. There should be no reason to change out the stem, seat, or handle bars at a later time to alter the fit, which is common for bikes purchased “off the shelf.” - Cost $299 ($150 can be applied to a Serotta Custom Frame at any later time)
PRO FIT Service – This process is to “retrofit” your current bike to optimize fit, form, function, power and performance. This process starts with a thorough evaluation of your goals, and desires, and your flexibility, strength, alignment, and special needs. You will leave with your bike set up, or with specific parts to purchase to achieve the perfect fit. You will also be given a drawing of your bicycle’s dimensions and positional coordinates. - Cost $199 ($100 can be applied to a Serotta Custom Frame at any later time)
Pedal Alignment – The most important interface with your bike is through your feet. Cleat and shoe alignment is critical to optimal performance and avoiding injury. A thorough evaluation of the feet is performed determine the ideal cleat placement and whether wedges need to be used. - Cost $75 (does not include the cost for wedges or shims)
Custom Orthotics – Not just “foot beds” or “inserts.” Custom orthotics are corrective devices that improve biomechanical alignment. These are medically prescribed and are available through FootWorks Physical Therapy. Do not confuse “custom foot beds” with custom orthotics. Sometimes when the alignment of the foot is significantly off from neutral, wedges are not enough to maximize alignment. This is when a corrective custom orthotics is used. Click here for more information. Custom Carbon Orthotics - approx $400. Cyclesoles - $250.
